Written by Sambalpur University Distance Education, Sambalpur Orissa was established in the year 1999 to provide higher education to build a career in the field of Management, Humanities and Computer Applications. Sambalpur University Distance Education is approved by the reputed DEB, and is affiliated with Sambalpur University, Sambalpur.
The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on 10th December 1966 to fulfill the long-cherished dream of the people of Western Odisha for the establishment of a University. The University started functioning on 1st January 1967 with Prof.Parsuram Mishra as the first Vice-Chancellor. The University was inaugurated on 4th January 1967 by Hon’ble Chancellor A.N. Khosla. The University started functioning in 1967 in a rented private building at Dhanupali, Sambalpur, and in Government building at Ainthapali, Sambalpur from 1968 – 72. In the year 1973, the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla.

There are more than 1,36,955 books, 14,323 bound volumes, 8,890+ e-journals, 4 newspapers, and 2,600 theses in the library’s extensive collection.
Campus:-
Two nationalized banks, a post office, a health center, an auditorium, a faculty house, a community center, and ten hostels are all located on campus. On campus, there are 20 Post-Graduate departments.
Hostel:-
Providing amenities including a TV-equipped common area, a reading room with magazines and newspapers, guest rooms, first aid stations, and STD telephone booths.
Medical Facility:-
This facility offers medical services to everyone residing close to the university campus, including faculty, employees, students, and visitors. For patients who become ill from the heat during the summer, it has one acute care unit.
