The Odisha State Open University was found in 2015 by the act of Odisha state legislature. The University is popularly-known for its distance learning programs and, is located in the Sambalpur district of Odisha. The University offers various courses ranging from teacher education, Computer science, Engineering, Business & Management, paramedical, agriculture, and foreign language courses. The fee to be charged for each of these courses is made reasonable and affordable for everyone.Currently, the Vice-chancellor of the University is Dr. Srikant Mohapatra.
The headquarters of OSOU is located in Sambalpur, whereas, to fulfil its mandate, it has established 54 regional centres and study centres in different parts of Odisha using the existing infrastructure of government/ government-aided colleges and institutions. OSOU is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Distance Education Bureau (DEB), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bar Council of India (BCI), and Medical Council of India (MCI).
Odisha State Open University Scholarships
Odisha Open state university[OSOU], offers grants to the meriting and commendable students having a place with the SC/ST and OBC under the Prerana Scholarship Scheme. Students are required to follow the rules set by the college to apply for the Scholarship. Till now, a large number of students are benefited from this scheme. This scheme is only for the students belonging to the backward classes such as SC/ST/OBC and not for general category students.
