Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad is an autonomous engineering and technology institute in Dharwad, Karnataka, India. IIT Dharwad started functioning from July 2016 in a temporary campus, previously of the Water and Land Management Institute in Belur Industrial Area, on the outskirts of Dharwad city.

Currently IIT Dharwad is operating from a temporary site that was formerly the Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) in the Belur Industrial Area, outside of the city of Dharwad. IIT Dharwad offers more than 10 specialised programmes at the undergraduate and doctoral levels through its eight academic departments. Currently, IIT Dharwad has 856 students and 73 faculty members.

The most popular program of IIT Dharwad is BTech where admissions are granted as per the JEE Advanced cutoff followed by JoSAA Counselling. Applicants must have a JEE Advanced rank between 3533 and 12605 in order to be considered for admission. On the other hand, admission to IIT Dharwad’s research prorammes is determined by GATE scores (600+) and a personal interview.

Admission :- 

Admission to all of IIT Dharwad’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are granted through national-level entrance exams. The institute offers academic courses that can be completed to achieve the degrees of Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech), Master of Technology (MTech), Master of Science (MS), and Ph.D. At the postgraduate level, IIT Dharwad provides an M.S. (By Research) programme. IIT Dharwad provides PhD programmes in a variety of fields in addition to UG and PG programmes.

Candidates seeking IIT Dharwad B.Tech admission must qualify the JEE Main examination in order to appear for the jee Advanced exam.  The final B.Tech shortlisting is done through the JoSAA Counselling seat allotment process. For the most sought IIT Dharwad B.Tech CSE stream, JEE Advanced cut-off for the general category ranges between 3533-4718. The annual fee of IIT Dharwad’s B.Tech program ranges from INR 2.13 to 2.29 lakhs.

Life At Iit Dharwad :- 

The Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) campus in Dharwad, close to the Karnataka High Court Bench, will serve as the original home of IIT Dharwad. At the settlement of Chikkamaligawad, a permanent structure is being constructed.

The permanent IIT Dharwad campus was opened in March 2023. It was decided to build the IIT campus on about 500 acres of KIADB property near Mummigatti on the Pune-Bangalore National Highway outside Dharwad, but the deal was scrapped because of legal complications. The State Cabinet resolved to award 470 acres of property in the Dharwad district’s Kelageri village, which is adjacent to the Mammigahtti Industrial Area. Twenty kilometers separate the college from the famed Kittur Fort.

The permanent campus of IIT Dharwad, India’s first green and smart IIT, was opened to the public on March 12, 2023, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Additionally, the city is home to educational institutions like SDMCET, the University of Agricultural Sciences, Karnatak University, and Karnatak College. The twin cities of Hubballi and Dharwad are also getting new institutions like the IIIT Dharwad. Additionally, Dharwad is home to the NTTF tool and die-producing instructional institute.
