Bethune College is a women’s college located on Bidhan Sarani in Kolkata, India, and affiliated to the University of Calcutta. It is the oldest women’s college in India. It was established as a girls’ school in 1849, and as a college in 1879.
Bethune College is the first Women’s college in the whole of the Asia continent that was established in 1879. The Bethune College is a government women’s college, affiliated with the University of Calcutta. It is situated opposite the Azad Hind Bagh, in the heart of North Kolkata. This college offers courses in science and arts streams at both UG and PG levels. It has been reaccredited at the ‘A’ level by the NAAC in 2015 with recognition from the UGC. It got ranked 78th in the NIRF 2023 rankings.
